Another Live Take on “Blue Future”
I recorded this take on my piece “Blue Future,” complete with vocals, last night. A studio version of “Blue Future” can be found on my EP of the same name (see below).
The song is inspired by Duke Ellington’s “Concerto for Cootie” and Mose Allison pieces like “Everybody’s Cryin’ Mercy”. An instrumental version of this piece can be found on my record “The Second Act of Free Being,” where the harp is accompanied my master jazz guitarist Jerome Harris.
Harmonica stuff: there are several harps in the rhythm track for this piece, doing everything from low pulses to organ sounds with FX that include a Digitech RP500 and a Zoom G3. The lead harp for this version is recorded live with a Seydel 1847 Classic in D into an Audix Fireball mic, a Boss SY-200 synth pedal, and a Digitech RP360XP running a Tweed Deluxe patch.
This is a new take from start to finish. The video I posted of this piece at this site a while ago used a pretty traditional harmonica lead sound. This one is a lot less traditional; dare I say it’s blue and futuristic? It was recorded live in mono into a Zoom H4N, and mastered in Izotope Ozone 9 running Cakewalk by Bandlab, for all you harp techno nerds out there.
