Recording for the next Richard Hunter record begins in July!

It’s been over a decade since my most recent CD was released. In the meantime, I’ve been busy with lots of stuff; I wrote three books, I saved my wife’s life a couple of times, and I created a revolutionary new way for harmonica players to get loud. So I haven’t exactly been lying on a couch eating chocolates since 2005.

But enough is enough. It’s time for the next Richard Hunter record, and this one will be electric. It’ll have plenty of looped textures, plenty of jams, and plenty of big freakin’ harp sounds. It’ll take full advantage of everything I’ve learned in the last 15 years about the harmonica as an instrument for the 21st century.

There’ll be plenty of news coming about this project in the next few months, so stay tuned. In the meantime, I’m very excited about this opportunity to lay down a major statement about the future of the harmonica. Now excuse me while I go write some songs…

A Multi-Colored Piece for Harmonica as Organ

I recorded this improvised piece in my home studio last month. I wanted to try something where the structure of the piece is defined as much by changes in tone as by changes in harmony, and it worked nicely in this case.

Looping Setups Old and New and a Couple of New Loop Jams

I decided in the last couple of days to buy some new gear for looping. The main idea with this gear is to sync everything to everything: loopers to each other, loopers to drum machines, drum machines to sequencers–you name it, I want it synced up.

Hot Jams at Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues

I was in London Sunday through Tuesday at Gartner’s Project Portfolio Management and IT Governance Conference, and as usual I made a point to get to either the Sunday or Monday jam session at Ain’t Nothin’ But The Blues. The Monday night jam in particular, which is run by blues master guitarist Davide Mazzantini, attracts a lot of great players. I had something to do on Sunday, so I went to the Monday jam. It turned out to be a good bet.
