This terrific live performance by Jason Ricci at SPAH 2015, recorded only a couple of weeks ago as of this writing is a very modern update on a traditional harmonica style. The precision Ricci puts into the articulation of his rapid lines and rhythms is remarkable, as is his ever-present ability to ramp up the intensity of a piece over long stretches of time. (We remain in awe of Jason’s live 18-minute rendition of “Whammer Jammer” from a few years back.) What stamina!
The gear list for this piece ain’t much. He’s using a standard-tuned diatonic harmonica. I don’t know the make or model, and I doubt it matters. This piece is about the guy playing it, not the manufacturer.
Enjoy.
