Video of the week February 5 2011: Charlie Musselwhite in Concert
Charlie Musselwhite and band playing “Blues Why Do You Worry Me?” Classic Charlie, meaning blue and personal, with touches of jazz in both the harp and guitar. Charlie starts this piece in second position, switches to third position for the first solo, and back to second for the out choruses. There’s a lot of variety in the lines here, with lots of different textures and some characteristic gut-wrenching high register stuff, and the sound always has a rough edge to it that keeps things from getting too pretty.
Don’t know where or when this was filmed. The various club logos in sight suggest Germany. The band includes Andrew ‘Junior Boy’ Jones on guitar, Felton Crews on bass, and Tommy Hill on drums, which suggests that this video was made in 1994 (and almost certainly between 1994 and 1998).
