Vincent Bucher has been one of my favorite harmonica players since I played with him at a jam session at Utopia, a club in Paris, France (as opposed to Paris, Texas) five or so years ago. He plays frequently with African musicians like Tao Ravao and Boubacar Traore. (His latest album with Traore, Mali Denhu, is available on Amazon.com, and it’s got tons of great harmonica on it.) This performance, titled “Soleil Noir” (Black Sun) features Bucher with Tao Ravao, and it shows Bucher’s virtues off well–great tone, fresh lines played with terrific clarity, and strong rhythm.
